Christine Harris and HIT Productions,
Australia’s Premier Theatre Touring Company Presents
"Wild World - The Cat Stevens Story"

Chapel Theatre, 8pm April 28 Tuesday

At the height of his career in the mid-1970’s, Cat Stevens, discontent with the excesses of fame and fortune, turned his back on the music business. At the time, he had album sales of over 40 million and sold out stadiums across the globe. In Australia alone, one in two households owned a Cat Stevens album. So it’s not surprising that the question most often asked of Cat Stevens over these past thirty years is “Why?” Why did he disappear from the music scene? wild world

Take a journey to discover the man behind the songs the world loves to sing along to as Paul Dillon guides us through the story of this enigmatic songwriter, from his humble beginnings in London to his eventual conversion to Islam and emergence as Yusuf Islam, performing 24 songs including:

Moonshadow ? Peace Train ? Morning has Broken ? Where do the Children Play ? So Very Young ? Father and Son and many more

London-born Paul Dillon has had a lifelong love affair with the music and poetic lyrics of Cat Stevens, his resemblance to him, both physically and vocally, is remarkable, and he has played in many of the same venues where Cat’s extraordinary success story began, including London’s West End. Accompanying by his band, The Tillermen, Paul Dillon will be supported in vocals by Elenoa Rokabura, one of the most exciting new talents to hit the Australian music scene in many years.

This is an event no music fan should miss. Hear the unforgettable songs. Share the emotion of his amazing story. As one critic put it, ”…the music and story captivate you for almost two hours. It seemed like ten minutes to me!”

The Director of Wild World is Don Mackay; The musical Director is Simon Myers; Keyboard is Clare Whitcombe and lead guitar is Josh Roydhouse.

Chapel Theatre, 8pm April 28 Tuesday

Tickets $30, at Carelle's Young World, approx 2 weeks prior.

After-Words by Col

A couple of years ago, I was having lunch in a customer's canteen in Canberra and got talking to a lady (a fellow consultant in fact) on my table. After a few minutes idle discussion we discovered that we were both at the same Pink Floyd concert at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in 1969!

I mention this not only to highlight the fact that it is a very small world, and that my long-term memory is significantly better than my recollection of last week's events, but also because I wouldn't mind betting she too went to the Cat Stevens' concert at the same venue that year.

Now, as much as I loved Cat Stevens music, and I was a huge fan, I have no doubt my lunch companion would agree with me - tonight at the Chapel Theatre was the better concert!

Paul put on an incredible performance and the support from Clare, Elenoa (how does she get those notes?) and Josh was just brilliant. The four of them were solid as a rock and from the opening chord to the closing standing ovation they had the near-capacity audience completely enraptured.

What a great night!

And from Melissa:

April 28 saw Hit Productions present “Wild World – The Cat Stevens Story”. We had a fantastic turnout for this event, with Paul Dillon and the Tillermen literally “rocking the house” (according to Leslie who was in the canteen downstairs and could feel the building vibrating!) and receiving a standing ovation at the end of the evening from a very appreciative crowd. “Wild World” certainly lived up to its promise of wooing the audience with their rendition of Cat Steven’s songs, and the tales of his life.
