Start dusting off those scripts and rolling the cameras, it’s happening again...

Glen Innes Arts Council will be presenting “Don’t Waste the Popcorn!” New England Short Film Festival 2011.

“Don’t Waste the Popcorn!” will be held on the first weekend of the “Land of the Beardies Festival” on the 4th, 5th, and 6th November 2011 at the Chapel Theatre in Glen Innes, with the short films being screened on our new state of the art Dolby 3D Digital Cinema System with 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound. Most films will still be screened in standard 2D format, however 3D entries can be accepted.

“Don’t Waste the Popcorn!” is looking for the most creative and talented film makers in the region Even if your film has been entered elsewhere it can still be entered in “Don’t Waste the Popcorn!”. Entries close Wednesday 31st August 2011, so start your film now.

Our first film making workshop will be on Saturday 18th June at 9.30 am until approx 4pm and will be about camera skills (including hands on activities so bring your camera), lighting, and sound. This workshop will be presented by David Gilchrist of Digizyn Studios and Tafe Tamworth. The cost of the workshop will be $10 for school students and $20 for adults. Entries will be accepted in the following categories:

Comedy,
Drama,
Animation,
Music video, and
Documentary.

With prizes awarded for:

Best Film in each category,
Best Youth Film,
Best New England Film,
Best Technical Film,
Audience Choice,
Encouragement Award, and
Best Film 2011.


The maximum length of entries accepted will be 10 minutes.

Awards night:

• Saturday evening 5th Nov (7pm)

• Friday 4th Nov (7pm)
• Saturday 5th Nov (2pm)
• Sunday 6th Nov (2pm)

Categories and Awards for Entries 2011:

• 1. Documentary,
• 2. Musical video-clip,
• 3. Animation,
• 4. Comedy,
• 5. Drama.

Awards ($100) will be presented for the best film in each of the above categories.

In addition, entries may be eligible for one of the following awards, if the criteria are met:

• New England connection $50 (Connection by residency or location of filming to New England region of NSW, Australia – based on Australian Federal electoral boundaries)
• Youth $50 (must be predominately the work of students / youth under 18 years)

Awards will also be presented for:

• Best Overall Short Film $200 (Chosen from all entries),
• Audience Choice $100 (votes collected during Friday and Saturday general screenings and the Official Screening),
• Best Technical Film $100 (Chosen from all entries),
• Encouragement Award $50 (Chosen from all entries).

Entry Fees:

• Adults $20,
• School Students & Youth (under 18) $15.

Format for Entries:

• All entries should be submitted on CD / DVD in a clearly labelled hard case.
• Standard Entries - AVI file type.
• 3D Entries – 3D DCP file type (JPEG 2000).
• email projection@giac.com.au for any queries regarding entry formats.
• Films will be played through a Dolby Digital Cinema System with 3D capability and 7.1 surround sound.
• 10 minutes maximum length.
• Consistent with “G”, “PG”, or “M” rating.
