Ben Winkelman Trio

GIAC presents the Ben Winkleman Trio – Sunday 25 July 7pm at the New England Club.

The Ben Winkleman Trio performed in Glen Innes a few years ago, and will be back to perform their innovative and dynamic contemporary jazz that draws on diverse influences, which range from Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music to stride piano and Jelly Roll Morton's "Spanish tinge". The Trio’s second album, “The Spanish Tinge” won the Australian Independent Record Labels Association award for Best Independent Jazz Release 2007.

The Ben Winkelman Trio is touring nationally in July-August 2010 to launch its third CD, “Odysseys”, on the Jazzhead label.

Following the critically acclaimed The Spanish Tinge (2007 AIR Award winner for Best Independent Jazz Release) and Stomps, Pieces & Variations (2006 Australian Jazz Bell Award nominee for Best Classic Jazz Album), the Ben Winkelman Trio continues to explore new possibilities for the jazz piano trio.

The Ben Winkelman Trio is an award-winning, innovative and dynamic contemporary jazz piano trio, playing all original repertoire that draws on diverse influences. These range from Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music to stride piano and 20th century classical music.

Over the last five years the Ben Winkelman Trio has toured extensively nationally and internationally, and has appeared at many of the national jazz and music festivals and on ABC TV.

The Ben Winkelman Trio are: Ben Winkelman – piano, Sam Anning – bass, Ben Vanderwal – drums
